Privacy Policy

AKIKOAOKI (hereinafter "the Company") establishes the following Privacy Policy (hereinafter "this Policy") regarding the handling of user personal information in connection with the services provided on this website (hereinafter "the Service").

Article 1 (Personal Information)

"Personal information" refers to "personal information" as defined under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information — information relating to a living individual that can identify a specific person through descriptions such as name, date of birth, address, phone number, contact details, or other identifiers, as well as data relating to appearance, fingerprints, or voiceprints, and information that can identify a specific individual on its own, such as health insurance policy numbers (personal identification information).

Article 2 (Methods of Collecting Personal Information)

The Company may request personal information such as name, date of birth, address, phone number, email address, bank account number, credit card number, and driver's license number when a user registers for an account. The Company may also collect personal information — including transaction records and payment information involving users — from affiliated partners (including information providers, advertisers, and ad delivery partners; hereinafter "Partners").

Article 3 (Purpose of Collecting and Using Personal Information)

The Company collects and uses personal information for the following purposes:

  • To provide and operate the Service
  • To respond to user inquiries (including identity verification)
  • To send emails about new features, updates, campaigns, and other services offered by the Company
  • To send necessary communications such as maintenance notices and important announcements
  • To identify and restrict users who violate the Terms of Service or attempt to use the Service for fraudulent or inappropriate purposes
  • To allow users to view, update, or delete their own registration information and usage history
  • To bill users for paid services
  • For purposes incidental to the above

Article 4 (Changes to Purpose of Use)

The Company may change the purpose for which personal information is used only when there is a reasonable basis to consider the new purpose related to the original purpose. Any such change will be communicated to users or published on this website by the method specified by the Company.

Article 5 (Disclosure to Third Parties)

The Company will not provide personal information to third parties without prior user consent, except in the following cases (and except as otherwise permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other applicable laws):

  • When necessary to protect the life, body, or property of a person and it is difficult to obtain the individual's consent
  • When particularly necessary for improving public health or promoting the healthy development of children, and it is difficult to obtain the individual's consent
  • When cooperation with a national or local government body or its delegate in performing legally mandated duties is required, and obtaining consent may impede such duties
  • When the Company has notified users in advance or made public the following, and has filed the required notification with the Personal Information Protection Commission:
    • That the purpose of use includes provision to third parties
    • The categories of data to be provided
    • The means or method of provision
    • That provision to third parties will be stopped upon the individual's request
    • How to submit such a request

Notwithstanding the above, the following are not considered third-party disclosures:

  • When the Company outsources all or part of the handling of personal information to the extent necessary to achieve the purpose of use
  • When personal information is transferred as part of a business succession through merger or other means
  • When personal information is shared jointly with specific parties, provided that the individual has been notified in advance (or the information is readily accessible) regarding: the fact of joint use, the categories of data shared, the scope of parties sharing it, the purposes of use, and the name of the party responsible for managing the information

Article 6 (Disclosure of Personal Information)

Upon request by the individual, the Company will disclose personal information without delay. However, disclosure may be withheld in whole or in part if it falls under any of the following, and the individual will be notified of such decision promptly:

  • When disclosure could harm the life, body, property, or other rights and interests of the individual or a third party
  • When disclosure could significantly impede the proper conduct of the Company's business
  • When disclosure would otherwise violate applicable law

Notwithstanding the above, information other than personal information — such as browsing history and behavioral data — will not be disclosed as a general rule.

Article 7 (Correction and Deletion of Personal Information)

If a user finds that personal information held by the Company is incorrect, they may request correction, addition, or deletion (hereinafter "Correction, etc.") through the procedures established by the Company. If the Company determines that the request is valid, it will make the necessary Correction, etc. without delay and notify the user of the outcome.

Article 8 (Suspension of Use of Personal Information)

If an individual requests that the Company suspend or delete their personal information (hereinafter "Suspension, etc.") on the grounds that it is being used beyond the stated purpose or was obtained through improper means, the Company will promptly conduct the necessary investigation. If the investigation determines that the request should be honored, the Company will carry out the Suspension, etc. without delay and notify the user. If Suspension, etc. would entail significant cost or is otherwise difficult to implement, the Company will take alternative measures to protect the user's rights and interests.

Article 9 (Changes to this Privacy Policy)

The contents of this Policy may be changed without notice to users, except as otherwise required by law or specified herein. Unless separately stipulated by the Company, any revised Privacy Policy takes effect from the time it is posted on this website.
